Less Winter Sports Holidays for Sale this Winter Season Will Lead to Fewer Discounts

Filed under: Hall Of Travel, Living In Leisure — admin @ 6:14 am

Skiers can anticipate to pay upwards of 10 percent more for vacations this season as chalet operators slash the quantity of vacations available.

Peak-season trips will be noticeably expensive but even at other weeks there will surely be fewer big reductions on skiing holidays.

Snowboarding insiders report that with ski operators reducing capacity by as much as 16 per cent holiday costs are unlikely to fall.

Demand is even now outstretching supply during half term that for the second year be on the one week for nearly all the schools in England.

The increment in prices along with a reduction in the number of vacations follows what was a particularly fine ski season for skiers with deep snow all over Europe.

With the collapse of the pound versus the dollar obliterated margins of profit leaving a lot of smaller skiing operators in debt.

Next season already looks up for skiers happy to vacation in Jan and March, when prices will increase on average 15 per cent on the average, instead of 22 % for peak season dates.

Airlines, chalet companies and lift companies like those in Chamonix are starting to recognize that they provide travelers reductions or special offers. Clever holidaymakers will purchase as many add ons ” for example ski passes and ski rental ” in pounds prior to leaving on holiday.

Safety Officer Job Positions in Thailand

Filed under: Hall Of Travel — admin @ 11:31 am

Gaining employment in Thailand as a foreigner typically means taking in an English teaching position. Even though there are well paid English teaching jobs in universities like Thammasat or Chulalongkorn, the vast majority of such jobs aren’t terribly well paid.

In fact, don’t anticipate a high salary for any job requiring skills, teaching or otherwise. It doesn’t sound very promising, but actually if you want to live in the Land of Smiles for a few years, such poorly paid jobs aren’t too much of a problem since the cost of living is very low in Thailand, the infrastructure is the best in South East Asia, it’s a safe country, and there’s still every chance to further your career and get some useful work experience.

However there’s a hidden problem that only presents itself after some time: so you’ve been staying in the Land of Smiles for 1 or 2 years, and you’ve accumulated great work experience, your wage isn’t great, but so what : the cost of living is low so no problem. HOWEVER, do you know what’s coming next? : You haven’t had the opportunity to actually BANK money while staying in Thailand. The cost of air tickets look very expensive compared to your salary. The cost of living back home starts to panic you when you compare your Thai wage slip. This dilemma hits a lot of foreigners in Thailand a year or two after deciding to work there. Long- term plans can often be put on hold since you don’t have the savings to realise any ambition like purchasing a house, purchasing a car, or getting married.

Therefore, key point : when thinking about staying in Thailand, also consider that it is very difficult to bank substantial quantities of cash when thinking about the prices of “back home”.

Yet, it’s not all about money is it? You can gain a wonderful experience in Thailand, perhaps learn the language, make new friends, go travelling around the country when you have time off work, and gain some precious overseas work experience.

So what kind of work placements can you find in Thailand? Looking at jobs-quality.com - a site listing positions in and around the Chonburi and Bangkok areas of Thailand - they have listed HR work placements, Admin work placements, engineering work placements in Thailand, safety officer job positions etc. Essentially the sort of work placements you’d find in your home country. While most of these posts may be looking for a Thai national who speaks Thai, there are still English-speaking prerequisites for placements inside many international organizations based in Thailand.

Travel Breaks for the Eco Conscious Snowboarder

Filed under: Hall Of Travel, Living In Leisure — admin @ 8:05 pm

Thousands of skiers will soon be looking for their ski gear and dashing forth looking for the greatest snowfall. And beyond any doubt the results from your carbon footprint will be about as far down the list of holiday to dos as a Christmas tree after the Christmas vacation. Just last winter, a late snow was in the newspaper headlines and holidaymakers were panic stricken about the bits of snow dissolving almost as soon as they put down.

Holiday company Chalets France, located at the foot of Mont Blanc in Chamonix in the French Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon neutral and offer snowboarders an environmentally friendly option when booking their skiing trip. Chalet1802 owner Kinsley said: Last year was a bit of a shock with the hottest wintertime in 50 yrs in the French Alps. Skiing ski fields like Avoriaz, Les Contamines-Montjoie and Luz Ardiden suffered. It was temperate and the snowfall didnt settle so much of the early winter skiing season in the Alps was patchy. We chose to become carbon negative to help preserve the skiing resort.

Kinsley said: We’re not assaying to prescribe to guests only I believe its valuable to provide the guests the option without raising the cost of the stay. If they book with us and visits our Chamonix luxury chalet they may further off set their carbon footprint and we take in the extra prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - guests desire luxuriousness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we considered ways of decreasing the affect of a skier driving over here for a holiday.”

The firm have also partnered with charity Climate Care, who tackles climate change by making C02 reductions for people and firms.

    Cypriot Delights

Filed under: Adventure Stuff, Hall Of Travel — admin @ 3:56 am

Cyprus is an island with strong greek traditions, but its great all year round sun is what attracts most of us, which has made it a very popular destination with tourists, with over 2.4 million visiting the island each year. The island receives over 330 days of sunshine a year, which has given it the name The Island of the Sun. With plenty of travel agents able to arrange Cyprus holidays and low cost airlines such as Easyjet offering routes to Paphos and Larnaca, it has never been easier to get there.

While attracting visitors from around the world, most of them tend to be Europeans. In recent years Russians and Poles have become poolside regulars alongside the French, Germans and, of course, us Brits.. The British Armed Forces have long has a presence in Cyprus. The UK retains a military base in order to have a gateway for forces to the Middle East. As such the Brits are now almost as local and the locals, and this has in turned resulted in areas that are less traditional and more contemporary in culture. From English being spoken everywhere you go, to driving on the left side of the road. No doubt the similarity to the UK makes us Brits feel more at home, but we also get to bask in the sun.

For many reading this, the prospect of taking a holiday away from England only to be greeted at the airport by a hire car representative hailing from Croydon and being served an authentic Mediterranean dish of steak and chips will not appeal. However, this side of Cyprus, that continues to attract millions of tourists year after year, is only one aspect of the island and is concentrated around the tourist hotspots of Paphos, Larnaca and Ayia Napa. Fortunately as you venture off the beaten track, your are soon reminded of the character that has made this island a popular destination for millennia.

If your fancy cooling off, and seeing something different take a trip up to the Troodos Mountains. In the heart of the mountains you will find the Kykkos monastery, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1998. Housing art and exhibits on ancient Greece, the monastery has the twin function of being a museum for visitors and a practising monastery lived in by worshiping monks. Kykkos even has its own winery where the monks bottle and sell their wine. A daytrip to the Troodos Mountains can be a welcome change from the beach and with overnight accommodation available in many of the authentic villages dotted about; you might want to spend a few days here sampling another side of Cyprus.

The History Of The Florida Keys

Filed under: Hall Of Travel — admin @ 8:38 am

Ponce de Leon’s found the Florida Keys while on an expedition in
1513. On this trip the Spanish did not find any gold, nor was
there any fresh water, but what they did find was a large amount
of bugs. They mapped and named the Keys primarily as an aid to
their ships. They used the Florida Straights to get from the New
    World back the Old.

The first settlement was at Key West but it wasn’t until 1882.
This was more than two decades before Florida became an official
state. All the other Keys stayed unsettled until around 1874. It
was during this year that the government surveyed them and then
plotted land for homes and businesses. Although at this time the
homes were still primal. The materials used to build these
houses were taken from the local beaches and most of the wood
was from shipwrecks that have washed up on shore.

The biggest settlers of the Florida Keys were the mosquitoes.
The mosquito has been called the king of the Keys. Over the
years the residents of the Keys tried many things to get rid of
the mosquitoes. The most common thing used to kill these pests
were bags filled with woodchips that had been soaked in engine
oil and then hung over the water holes during the night in an
attempt to kill the mosquito larvae.

In 1912 Henry Flagler built a railroad through the Florida Keys
to Key West. This helped to greatly increase the human
settlement of the Florida Keys. The railroad was destroyed
however in 1935 due to a hurricane. In 1938 the longest
over-water road in the world was built. This includes 42
bridges. This opened up the Florida Keys to the growing tourist
    trade.

Today in the Florida Keys, there are roughly about 40,000
residents and thousands and thousands of visitors that come to
fish and swim and sail. Tourists love to come to the Keys to
dive in the crystal waters off the tropical reef. Other tourists
come to relax in the sun.
