Trials and Tribulations of a Fitness Trainer

Filed under: Best Gender Issue Tips — admin @ 1:40 pm

Feeling like the NASA rover, Spirit, I started January triumphant.

Ah, that quest for perfection, that ever burning flame that drives us onward to test the perimeters of our well being/existence. Especially after lolling in holiday bliss. I was energized and fortified, with a couple of extra pounds to propel me with extra fire power. Running in the mountains of our upstate home, coming home and working out religiously and tending to the perfect diet another example of perfect technical prowess. The first week of work back in the city routine went spectacularly. Until like the rover abruptly malfunctioning, a glitch? I developed laryngitis. I knew I hadn’t been taking my vitamins and not enough vegetables over the holidays and was now compensating with a strict regime to stave off the dreaded cold or flu signs flashing ahead. The immune system was showing weakness, I stopped the exercise to fortify immunity. A week later, feeling better, my voice sounding less like broken violin strings, I dashed ahead. A fantastic workout, never better, I’m back, the “Victor” I think! The boom lowered later that night while trying to get up for dinner … I couldn’t. The next day, like the rover I was put to sleep until the malfunction was corrected. Well there goes 2 perfectly good weeks of dreams and aspirations! Week 3 I was sure I would redeem myself until I realized a bronchial infection kicked in and I’m down for the count for another week. Good intentions pave the road to……trying to hone in on the root of the problem.

Proper rest, no more burning the midnight oil, I have to stop working by 8pm. Instead of working until 11pm and then wondering why I can’t fall asleep. Two layers of clothes, it’s ferocious cold out there and because I insist on walking everywhere, I have to dress appropriately. Eat more vegetables, fruits and enough protein. If you want to lose weight and stay healthy you need your nutrients therefore vegetables, fruit and lean protein, every day every meal plus vitamins no ifs and or buts! Or Opportunity will take over where Spirit left off!

Experiencing an illness made me decide to examine into how to realize hidden potentials to enhance our quality of life. For more information go to www.vitalsignsfitness.com. Questions? email deb@vitalsignsfitness.com Deborah Caruana

Save Money with a Solar Pool Heater & Cover

Filed under: School of Home Improvement — admin @ 11:43 am

Heat your pool with a Solar Pool Heater and save the heat with a Solar Pool Cover. Solar pool heating systems are very simple in terms of engineering and application. The basic principle being: run enough water through enough black stuff on the roof and the pool gets warm.

Most pool heating systems include a:

Solar collector: The device through which pool water is circulated to be heated by the sun

Filter: Removes debris before water is pumped through the collector

Pump: Circulates water through the filter and collector and back to the pool

Flow control valve: Automatic or manual device that diverts pool water through the solar collector.

How pool heating systems work.

Pool water is pumped through the filter and then through the solar collector(s), where it is heated before it is returned to the pool. In hot climates, the collector can also be used to cool the pool during peak summer months by circulating the water through the collector at night.

Some systems include sensors and an automatic or manual valve to divert water through the collector when the collector temperature is sufficiently greater than the pool temperature. When the collector temperature is similar to the pool temperature, filtered water simply bypasses the collectors and is returned to the pool.

Solar pool collectors

Solar pool collectors are made out of different materials; the type that you buy depends on your climate and how you intend to use the collector. Collectors designed to operate only when temperatures are above freezing are inexpensive, made from specially formulated plastic materials, and generally do not include glazing (a glass covering). Collectors appropriate for colder climates, or that are designed to operate year-round, generally have metal components and a low iron-tempered glass glazing (glazing greatly increases the cost of the collector).

Solar Pool Covers

The largest heat loss from a swimming pool is from evaporation, by adding a simple barrier such as a pool cover can cut almost all of these losses. Covering the pool with a pool cover when it is not in use is the single most effective means of reducing pool heating costs. Savings of 50-70% are possible. It is also worthwhile investing in a pool cover reel, to make covering the pool easier.

Mini Scrapbook Albums

Filed under: Lifestyle Center — admin @ 4:15 am

A great gift or a great way to celebrate a special occasion is
with a mini album. A mini album is a smaller album such as a 6×6
or 8×8 size. It usually only contains a certain event or a
theme. The layouts are usually all the same and use minimal
embellishments. Mini albums are fun to create because you can
complete a whole album in a couple of hours. It makes you feel
like you accomplished something. With the bigger albums, I
usually have a huge stack of photos that never seem to end. But
with a mini album, I know an end is in sight! Mini albums don’t
have to be albums. They could be tags, matchstick cases, or cd
holders. You can make an album out of almost anything. For
instance a school themed mini album could be made from pencil
shaped paper adhered together. Theme albums are my favorite.
These combine different pictures to make an album. It could be
your favorite pictures, pet pictures, or anything you have. An
example that I do is once a year I make a layout for each of my
boys. I write descriptive words of their personalities, their
favorite foods and their favorite things to do, words they say,
and a funny story about them. I also include picture of them
through out the year so that you can see how they have grow.
It’s easy and fast and a lot of fun to look at how they have
changed over the years at a glance with out having to lug out
the big heavy albums! Mini albums are a great thing to
scrapbooking. I would recommend you make one this week end!

Window Treatments add Style to your Windows

Filed under: School of Home Improvement — admin @ 2:39 pm

Today’s look in window treatments ranges from a simple length of fabric arranged over
a rod to elaborate draperies reminiscent of those in historic mansions. If you have a
great view or want the maximum amount of natural light possible, hard window
treatments allow the most flexibility.

Nothing affects a room as much as it’s windows and their treatments. If you’ve got’em,
you’ve must dress them up. The variety of window treatments is immense and the
possibilities are endless. No matter what your style is, you can find window treatments
that will work for you, and have some fun in the process.

Living room windows might be formally dressed, and bedroom windows usually require
privacy, but kitchen windows can make up their own rules with lively treatments that
are just for fun and good looks. Blinds, shades, and shutters of every conceivable size
and type can help you add personality to your windows.

Choosing a color scheme is usually one of the first steps in the design process,
because color can be used to create a focal point and set the mood in a room. Window
treatments offer the ideal opportunity to let your artistic side shine since they’re ideally
colorful accessories to your home decor.

Where privacy isn’t an issue, you’ll have even more options and many different kinds of
window treatments available, it’s no wonder that selecting the right solution for your
home can be a difficult decision.

NCAA Weekly Dish - 01/14/06

With conference well under way, Matt Fargo takes a look at three
big games on tap that you cannot miss this Saturday.

UCLA Bruins at Washington Huskies 4:00 PM ET

A 4-1 Pac Ten team takes on a 2-2 squad but those roles are
reversed of what most people would have thought. The Bruins are
off to a flying start in the conference despite injury problems
since practice started. This team has as many as four key
players on the injured list but isn’t letting that get in the
way. After an 11-0 start, Washington has dropped two of its last
four and it could be more as it finally takes to the road.

Washington played 12 of its first 14 games at home while those
other two games were on a neutral floor. Home losses to Arizona
in overtime and to rival Washington St. have dealt a small blow
to the Huskies although the conference season is just getting
underway. They are coming off a big road win at USC, their first
true road game of the season so this will be the first
experience of a back-to-back road set.

UCLA has won three straight after suffering a surprising home
loss to California at the end of last month. The only other loss
on the season was to Memphis in the semis of the preseason NIT.
UCLA is in sole possession of the conference lead and a win here
could give them a possible two-game lead. The Bruins have played
the 55th ranked schedule in the nation so they have been tested
against some of the best already.

Both offenses are shooting over 49 percent on the season even
though Washington is averaging more than 20 additional points
per game. That is due to an up-tempo offense, where the defense
allows more points, and also a schedule that is ranked 305th in
the country. The home team has won the last four meetings while
the Bruins have won seven of the last nine meetings and are
poised to continue that run.

Xavier Musketeers at Charlotte 49ers 7:00 PM ET

First place is on the line in the Atlantic Ten as two of the
four remaining undefeated teams in conference action take the
floor in Charlotte. Both teams come in red-hot, carrying
five-game winning streaks and offenses that have been on fire.
Xavier is averaging 78.8 ppg while Charlotte is averaging 80.4
ppg during those streaks so the defense that steps up likely
gets the W.

The Musketeers have lost only twice all season long and those
two defeats came by a combined five points to Creighton and
Illinois. Four of their last five wins have been by 17 or more
points while nine of the 10 wins on the year have been by double
digits. Xavier is third in the country in shooting margin at
+12.2 percent, trailing only Florida and Texas for the top spot.

Charlotte got off to a rocky start this year with a 1-3 record
but things are turning around for the 49ers. In addition to
their five straight wins, they have taken nine of their last 11
games including five straight on the road. The home floor has
been the issue however as Charlotte is just 4-3 at Halton Arena.
That includes losses to Mississippi St. and Valparaiso but
things have turned around with two straight home wins.

This is the 49ers first season in the Atlantic Ten and things
have gotten off to a great start but the Musketeers have a chip
on their shoulder. Xavier leads the conference in seven major
categories but playing a schedule ranked 197th in the nation has
definitely helped those numbers. The 10-2 start is Xavier’s best
since beginning the 2000-01 season with an 11-2 mark.

Syracuse Orangemen at Cincinnati Bearcats 8:00 PM ET

Two big time programs meet for the first time ever as Syracuse
heads to Cincinnati for its second straight road game. The
Orange can keep pace with West Virginia and Pittsburgh for the
Big East lead while the Bearcats could use the win to avoid
falling from 4th all the way down to possibly 12th in the
conference. Six Big East teams are ranked in the latest AP poll,
yet Syracuse, one of only three unbeaten conference teams, isn’t
one of them.

Syracuse traveled outside of New York for just the second time
this season and came away with a win over Notre Dame on
Wednesday. It was the Orange’s 11th straight victory and a win
over the Bearcats will no doubt vault them back into the
rankings. The offense has been hit or miss during the streak as
they have scored 80 or more points six times but have also
scored fewer than 70 points three times.

The Bearcats had a 10-game win streak snapped against the
Huskies as the offense failed to reach 70 points for the first
time in 11 games. Cincinnati is 8-2 at home on the season but
has won five straight games at Fifth Third Arena since losing to
third-ranked Memphis. Guard Armein Kirkland is out for the
season for the Bearcats as he suffered a torn ACL against
Connecticut in their last game.

Both offenses are high potent attacks, averaging a combined
157.2 ppg on the season. For Syracuse, it isn’t overly
impressive seeing that it has played a schedule ranked 242nd in
the country. The Bearcats have faced a slate ranked 20th in the
nation for their 80.6 ppg looks better between the two. Both
defenses allow less than 40 percent shooting from the floor
while Cincinnati has a +12.4 percent edge at the free throw
line.

Managing Dickheads

Filed under: Web Of Management — admin @ 5:42 am

“We are so different and individualistic that we can’t work together.” Subroto Bag chi, a senior executive in wipro technologies and Indian Technology MNC, said to his chairman in a straight talk. But Premji, the chairman, simple reply to the statement was, “That’s because we should work together.”

High performers are very erratic, individualistic, and egoistic in nature. Less experience senior management team would think only negative characters in them, a destroyer, keen to break well defined rules, unreasonable, a person who can’t take a company to its goal. Is that true in real world? Just to name a few Louis Gerstner, Steve jobs, Larry Ellison, Richard Branson, Henry ford etc. These super human just can not be defined by any lexicon. You make a study on one and other will take 180 turn to the table on that definition.

Super performers are always at 180 of any defined personality. To work with these kind of people a whole new set of skill, are required and managing a group of super performers is a job only suitable to a similar devil.

But wait for a second; does all these disqualification make these high performers unsuitable for a place in your team? Think again, can your team live without these out of box thinker. Answer is yes.

A major portion of any team are made of media are managers. Team still perform (obviously in relative sense) But put one these 180 spit firing performers, you run a speeding speedboat we can win the race or get topped down in matter of time. But you will be agree with me that only a speedboat can win the race, not a two boat. Your only function (mind it, a devils job it is) to sit on the stirring and keep the synergy of all system working together to achieve the required result.

Managing these high performers is an art, a test of your extremes. But the outcome is many fold which makes it imperative to have these dickheads in your team as many as you can. They hate to loose. They want to win every day, every hour. They are high in energy, high in temper, high in ego. They are intolerable to mediocrity. For them anyone less than 100 is a sinner. They go to extreme to produce result and get angry to the level of hell if someone does not get in done with their efficiency level. They may even break loose on you if you come in their way.

But those are the ingredient of a successful. Winning team. You need to give them space, be patience, sit and watch. Your task is to keep them not breaking others boundaries and something in the team’s benefit let them break it. It is a tight ship to manage but at the end of the day, it is your capabilities to direct their high energies and enthusiasm to produce required business results.

Take my words, your only job here would to direct these dickheads in a particular direction and your company success is on autopilot.

So go and find at least one. Big Dickhead, you hate keep in your team.

Unity Candles for Your Sacred Union

Filed under: Relationships Hub — admin @ 1:11 pm

Visualize weddings as like a jigsaw puzzle of traditions. Everyone has their own customs they bring from their family and culture. When a man and woman decide to marry, they each bring a piece of the puzzle to create a unique tradition of their own. The lighting of unity candles is one of these traditions that have become more popular within the past ten to twenty years.

When referring to unity candles, there are actually three. Two thin tapered candles stand for two individuals who will unite in marriage. There is also a large pillar candle that will be lit which signifies the joining of the two individuals. Depending on the location and preference, sometimes you will have a special candle dish or holder which will house all three unity candles. Other times you will have the large candle in the middle and the other two flanking it. Individual candle holders may be used for the unity candles as well.

The lighting of the unity candles has no religious connotations, but is representative of what a marriage is all about. There are no written rules on how the lighting of the unity candles should be performed. Therefore, you can create your own traditions and tailor this ritual to suit your wedding ceremony.

Typically, though, the unity candles are lit right after the wedding rings are exchanged but before the bride and groom are announced as husband and wife. There are also variations on who originally lights the individual unity candles. Sometimes, the individual tapered unity candles are lit before the ceremony starts and stay lit throughout the entire process. Other times, the parents of the bride and groom step forward after the ring presentation to light the candles.

The practice of the lighting of the unity candles also may have the bride and groom each lighting their own during the ritual. Then they come together and light the larger one in a symbol of unity, of two becoming one. Some debate exists about whether or not to blow out the individual tapered unity candles or leave them lit. One argument for blowing out the individual candles is that it symbolizes your forsaking the single life and committing to one another in marriage. On the flip side, leaving them lit means that while you are committed to one another in marriage, you are not forsaking your own individualism either.

Now that you have an idea about the ritual of lighting the unity candles, did you realize that are so many to choose from too? The unity candles are made in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes. Some are simple and unadorned. Others are elaborate and showy, decorated in a style suited to match your wedding décor.

These unity candles are customizable too. You can make them personal by having your wedding date printed on it along with your names. A special quote or short poem might be appropriate to convey your sentiments about marriage.

Marriage is the biggest commitment a person makes. Lighting of the unity candles as part of your wedding ceremony makes a big impact. Not only are you reciting vows before your loved ones, but you are also symbolizing your union in a very visual way.

So what do you do with the unity candles once the ceremony is over? Keep them to light for special occasions like your anniversary or the birth of a new child. You will be able to enjoy your unity candles for years to come.

Top 10 Ways For Copywriters To Overcome Writer’s Block

Filed under: Business — admin @ 5:31 am

We all know that words have the power to persuade, compel and most importantly, sell.

However, many have likened the process to getting the ‘right words’ to trying to get blood from a stone.

When I first started out, writing copy meant slitting my wrist and ‘giving blood’.

Of course, I’ve greatly refined my copywriting process, and I’d like to share my methodlogy with you.

Here are my top 10 ways of getting greatly reduce the number of brain farts that can stand in your way of writing cash pulling copy.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #1: National Enquirer

While you might be tempted to dismiss the Enquirer, the fact is people love tabloids! Senstionalism sells. Big time. This may just provide the much needed ’sensational angle’ you need to position your product or engineer your offer.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #2: Female Magazines

Headlines on these magazines are designed to tilltilate, tease and intrigue. You can and should model those headlines to add more sizzle into your copy and to give your writing that much needed ‘oomph’!

Writer’s Block Annihilator #3: competitor Research

Check your competitors out. Observe what they’re doing. What kind of strategy are they using? What kind of tactics are they using. How are they presenting their offer? The answers to these questions will provide you with the necessary brain juice to get the words ‘flowing’.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #4: current Events

There may be happenings in the world that you can link your ad copy to. For instance, you could have headlines like “If Only Clinton Knew This…”.

Get the idea?

Writer’s Block Annihilator #5: Festive Occasions

Is Thanksgiving or Valentine’s day around the corner? If you’re an info-publisher, would Valentine’s day be a good time to tell your subscribers how much you love them? Would Thanksgiving be a good time to tell your subcribers how grateful you are for their continuous support?

Writer’s Block Annihilator #6: Be Still

How about trying to stop ‘figuring’ it out, and just observe a good 3 minutes of pure silence. To quote the Good Book, “Be still and know that I am god”. You’ll surprise yourself at just how many ideas will start popping into your head simply because you ’stopped thinking’.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #7: Read Something else

Choose to read something completely different from what you are writing. The more ‘different’ it is, the better. This will allow your haphazard thoughts to regroup and refocus.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #8: Chunk It

Break down whatever you’re writing into achievable small chunks. Reward yourself at the end of every completed chunk.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #9: Refer To Controls

Drop all that you’re doing, and start reading winning ‘controls’. Understand that these sales letters became ‘controls’ because they were winners. It’s near to impossible to not get the next million dollar idea from winning sales letters. Remember, don’t reinvent the wheel when you can change the tires.

Writer’s Block Annihilator #10: Listen To Mozart And Baroque Music

Yes, it’s been proven to boost productivity. Baroque music is an excellent example, especially the works of Vivaldi, Bach and Handel. Interestingly, the major portion of scientific research into whether listening to music increases productivity has centred on what is known as the “Mozart effect”. Studies have shown that college students had performed better on their math problems when listening to classical music. Interestingly the effect of listening to Mozart does not appear to be limited to humans either. Apparently cows will produce more milk if music Mozart is played. Imagine what the ‘Mozart effect’ would do for your copy?

So now not only do you have one, but ten ways to rid yourself of writer’s woes.

Use them, nail those words, get those customers and rake those sales in.
